As an agreement between two airlines where the provider contracts to supply the aircraft (A) crew (C) maintenance (M) and insurance (I) and the lessee covers all direct operating costs. ACMI leasing is typically used to cover short to medium term additional capacity needs. ACMI leases are typically provided from one airline to another where they both have active AOC's.
A charter contract is typically undertaken between an airline and an entity that does not have an AOC. The provider is therefore responsible to operate the flight in its entirety with the contracting entity paying in advance for the services.
